Subject: Web Design using Yahoo! Finance Quotes Posted: Thu September 09, 2010 |

On occasion, I've been asked by my Web Design clients to include stock quotes on their websites and found that Yahoo! Finance was the easiest since it offers a .csv formatted feed.
Yesterday, I noticed that the Dow Jones Industrial Average quotes from Yahoo! Finance produced "Missing Symbols List" on several of my websites. I investigated and found nothing, so I contacted Yahoo! Finance Support and was informed that Yahoo! removed the quotes for ^DJI (Dow Jones Industrial Average) from their services.
As an alternative, I'm now grabbing the same data from MorningStar.com by using curl.

I understand that you're reporting that you cannot download CSV data for
^DJI. I can certainly give you more information about this.
The limitation you are encountering is due to restrictions by the Dow
Jones Index. Yahoo! is no longer able to provide Dow Jones Index data in
this manner. I apologize for any inconvenience caused.
