A good tool I use for Website route tracing, pinging, mail tracing, and checking server status is VisualRoute.

Why not just use the command line and tracert? For many reasons. tracert is extremely limited in the information it provides.

VisualRoute however is a very robust tool with a visual mapping of the trace from location to location on a global map.

Also, the tool automtically checks whether the proper ports on a particular machine is working. For instance, if your website's unreachable due to port 80 refusal, VisualRoute will tell you that.
